Microsoft Store, which debuted in June 2008, offers a combination of electronic and physical software for sale (recovery media). Through this store, the customer has an opportunity to directly download Microsoft software products. As an option, it is also possible to receive back-up copies of each software product downloaded. Thus, Microsoft Store offers customers a secure platform for discovering, purchasing, and then directly downloading Microsoft software. So far, the Microsoft Shop is available to the German and British markets (www.microsoftstore.de, www.microsoftstore.co.uk) and offers a selection of products specific to each country.
The shopping solution developed by arvato digital services is based on the Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 technology and offers flexible adjustments for extending the product portfolio and for expanding into additional countries (a development planned for calendar year 2008).
The design and content of Microsoft Stores will be custom-tailored to the issues and requirements of the various countries. In addition, the web shop has a sophisticated content management system and fully integrated license management.
