Digital Conversion
‘Digital conversion’ refers to the process of transferring physical and online masters to the digital archive by means of professional systems and confirming that these data comply with specifications. To ensure that data are transferred one to one, the recording process is linked to an automatic data integrity function. After a successful transfer, the data are available for the mastering process.
Mastering / Galvanization
In the mastering stage, the data prepared by premastering and/or digital conversion are transferred to a glass plate coated with a photoresist (glass master). At the same time, data integrity is checked and every master disc is subjected to measurements and visual control. In the galvanizing stage, a nickel tool, a so-called matrix, is manufactured from the master discs. Highest air conditioning and hygiene standards (cleanroom standards) are essential requirements. Restrictions on physical access ensure that only specialized personnel are allowed to enter these areas.
